About Us 

St Michael’s Grammar School is a leading co-educational K-12 independent school located in the thriving arts and culture hub of St Kilda. We are seeking a Marketing and Communications Manager who will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to drive forward our marketing and communications strategy, bringing strong digital marketing expertise, copywriting and relationship-building skills to the Marketing and Communications team.

 In an agile team of three, you will play a key role within an integrated marketing and communications function in a large and complex not-for-profit organisation. This role is an excellent opportunity for a marketing and communications professional with at least five years’ experience and a strong mix of communications and marketing skills to step into a leadership position and own a range of complex projects.

The Role 

The Marketing and Communications Manager is a full-time role within the Marketing and Communications Team, reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications. 

A degree-qualified, creative and personable individual pursuing a career in Marketing, Communications and Public Relations would thrive in this role whereby learning and development will occur daily through the variety of projects delegated and the dynamic relationships shared between the Marketing and Communications team and the broader St Michael’s community. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Digital Marketing Leadership: Implement, measure and report on event and recruitment campaigns, leveraging paid and owned content across Meta, Google, Programmatic Display Advertising and other channels. 
  • Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) Leadership: Leverage our new CRM to enhance the prospective family experience and drive efficiencies in advertising and digital marketing.
  • Strategy Support: Collaborate with the Director to implement and support the overall Marketing and Communications Strategy. 
  • Photography and Videography: Guide and work closely with the Marketing and Communications Officer to capture and assist with photo and video shoots, including smartphone photography for social media.
     
  • Content Creation and Management: With the practical support of the Marketing and Communications Officer, develop engaging content for the school’s official social media channels, manage website updates, and produce blogs and other informational materials. 
  • Publication Management: Work closely with external creative and publication management suppliers to deliver excellent publications, including the annual yearbook, bi-annual magazine and prospectus materials. 
  • Event Management: Help to promote, organise and manage events such as Open Days, community gatherings, and school visits to generate engagement. 
  • Advertising Management: Manage paid advertising placements across print, display and programmatic. 
  • Cross-Department Support: Provide marketing and communication advice and tactical support to other departments as required, and promote brand adherence across the School community. 
  • School Involvement: Actively participate in school life by attending key events and initiatives. 
  • Child Safety Compliance: Adhere to the School’s Child Safety Policy and undertake training to ensure compliance. 

Selection Criteria 

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum, majoring in communications, public relations or marketing, with, at minimum, an elective stream of study in marketing, communications or public relations. 
  • Past success delivering multi-channel marketing campaigns to drive event registration and/or website enquiry submissions. 
  • Excellent professional writing and copywriting skills. 
  • Past success growing reach and engagement on official social media channels. 
  • Proven ability to manage the production of publications and other print/digital materials for commercial/recruitment purposes. 
  • A proven track record of representing organisations in a professional and ethical manner.
