
Heather McRae
Principal
Diocesan School for Girls, Auckland
Heather is a highly experienced Principal, having previously led an international school (The Western Academy of Beijing), and a large New Zealand State School (Pakuranga College). She has been Principal at Diocesan since April 2009. She is a passionate biochemist, graduating from Massey University with a double major in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry followed by a Diploma in Teaching (with distinction).
Widely respected as one of New Zealand’s leading Principals, Heather is the former Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Independent Schools of New Zealand (ISNZ) and was chair of the Association of Heads of Independent schools. She was selected as a member of the Experts Panel to judge the ‘Prime Minister’s Excellence in Education Awards, and was recently appointed to the national Curriculum Advisory Group to advise the Minister of Education on the direction of curriculum developments. Heather is also an executive member of the Auckland College Sport Board.
Heather believes that everyone has leadership potential within, and the role of a great education is to help young people place their feet firmly in life by developing strength, self-confidence and resilience. She achieves this by creating a team of passionate leaders in a world class educational environment.
