We do still have two student-run Instagram accounts – they are both private. One is run by our Year 12 student leaders, one is run by our Year 12 sport leaders. My team oversees everything that is posted. We do share our photo permission information with these students – all parents who have chosen to restrict their child’s image use are advised that photo permission information is shared on a ‘need to know’ basis with staff and students. We find it really useful to have these pages – we often tag Moriah Leaders and Moriah Sport on our official social channels and vice versa. The responsibility for preventing under 16s from using social media rests with the platform, therefore while we instruct the leaders who manage the student-run socials not to allow identifiable under 16s to follow the account, this is often impossible. When a new leadership team comes in, we have a formal meeting with the Communications Captains they are the only ones who are permitted to have the login details and to post content – we emphasise the responsibility and they do take this incredibly seriously. More often than not, they check with us before posting content as they are very aware of their obligation to do the right thing in this space.
