Hi Bec,
I feel your pain! I’ve had experience with this in various ways, each with their pros and cons.
At my current school (a Reception to Y13 through train school with two prep campuses and one senior school and 1600 total students), the Comms Team is in charge of overseeing the three yearbooks (one for each campus). Our Senior Content Officer is in charge of overseeing the project and typcially uses the previous year’s version as a base template for the upcoming one. We would use the summer break to complete it and have it ready by the early part of Term 1.
In the past, at another school (1400+ students senior school), as the solo Comms person, I would oversee the project and worked with the printer directly. Our contract included design work, so it was definitely helpful to have them do some of the basic input work (class photos and names). As this was a senior school, I also worked with a group of students who were instrumental in putting together the rest of the pages and sections.
I’m happy to share more in detail about my experiences. Feel free to ask away or send me an email (donaldma@kellettschool.com)
