I’m from Gregory Terrace in Brisbane. As far as I’m aware, only our College and Brisbane Boys Grammar (among the GPS schools here) don’t interview for general entry in Years 5 and 7.
We stopped interviewing all applicants a few years ago due to the workload and, importantly, to avoid giving families false hope. Interviews are now only held if support needs are flagged. Instead, we’ve strengthened our document-based assessment, which includes reviews by our Head of Learning Support. This has proven more efficient and, we believe, fairer for families.
Non-disclosure can still be a challenge. We are very clear with families about the consequences, which can include cancellation of enrolment or pausing entry. That said, we are well-resourced and do enrol students with needs. Our focus is on ensuring families understand the support available so that decisions are made in the best interests of the student.
