Hi Kaitlyn,
We’re an NZ primary school but have Academic, Performing Arts, General Excellence and Sporting Excellence scholarships for entry at Year 7. The Academic is determined by an external test, Performing Arts via audition and written application so those two are fairly straightforward. The General and Sporting Excellence scholarships are awarded based on written application and interview. Things like competing at a national and regional level for sporting events were key in the decision making, but admittedly, it is hard to compare soccer with sailing for example! Evidence of sporting successes, supporting letters from coaches and evidence of good character and attitude were also important and part of the overall application.
We have previously had a Values Scholarship as well, which was to reward students who evidenced the school’s values but who didn’t necessarily excel in any one particular area. This allowed us to attract great students who were a good fit for the school, but the criteria were harder to define and it very much depended on interview, community service, character awards from previous schools etc.
Good luck,
Nicola
