Hi – we have just recently done this exercise, with our fourth House to be added from 2026. Once the decision was made to introduce the new House, we sent out an email to secondary students, inviting expressions of interest to join the new House from next year. We also then sent a similar email out to parents of primary students. Once we had gathered sufficient responses (not sure how many, but we are a smaller school), we selected a group of students to represent the new House and help decide on the name and colour. We provided a shortlist of options that would tie in with the names/colours of our other House groups. Once the final selection was made, one of our art teachers designed the emblem to match the style of the others, and we announced it to the community. We then sent another expression of interest out. The new students commencing next year (excluding siblings and children of alumni) together with the ones that have nominated to join, will form the basics of the new House. The Houses may be slightly unbalanced initially, but not substantially so – simply because of our size and the positive reaction we had from the community.
