Hi Danielle
We have a social club here at the College that was set up years ago. I have been a member for a number of years, and joined the committee this year. It was very active previously with end of term drinks, whole staff end of year lunch, gifts for those staff having a baby, getting married, going on long service leave or resigning. The staff member who was very active with this club has unfortunately stepped down and combined with Covid and a no-alcohol policy introduced at the College, the social club has become less active and rather “subdued” in recent years.
To be a member, $4 per fortnight was deducted from our salary to cover the costs of the above, but once the no-alcohol policy was introduced and staff drinks and lunches on campus ceased, the cost was reduced to $1.50 per fortnight.
We are struggling to find our new groove and relevance at the moment, and echo your and Rachel’s sentiment of keeping it simple. Also have a snag with those staff (approx 10%) who aren’t members. We question the need to pay for the social club as find it’s easier to organise off site events and just get folk to pay their own way.
We continue with a termly raffle of goodies which pays for itself. With a new headmaster we are changing up the end of term staff acknowledgement event from a tea to a casual bbq breakfast, so will see how that goes.
:-)
