Admissions
Session: Where Admissions, Compliance and Communication Collide
Independent Schools Victoria regularly supports schools navigating complex and often unclear admissions scenarios. This session explores the intersection of admissions, compliance and communication through the lens of the most common queries we receive – offering clarity, building confidence and creating space for shared discussion with peers facing similar scenarios.
Alumni
Session: How School Community Teams Build Trust, Engagement and Alignment
Non teaching and community facing staff play a vital role in shaping how a school is experienced by families, alumni and the wider community. Every conversation, whether with a prospective parent, alumnus, colleague or senior leader, has the potential to build trust, strengthen relationships and reinforce the school’s vision.
This practical session explores how everyday interactions can become moments of influence. Participants will learn simple communication techniques to build trust quickly, engage stakeholders more effectively and help bring the wider school community on board with key initiatives and priorities. The session will be highly interactive, with opportunities for participants to collaborate, exchange ideas and explore fresh approaches to engaging whole school communities. Attendees will also draw on shared experiences, reflecting on what has worked in their own contexts and how these insights can be adapted and reimagined in new and meaningful ways.
Importantly, the session will go beyond idea generation, focusing on how to bring people along the journey. Participants will explore practical ways to gain buy in from teams, leadership and the broader community, recognising that strong ideas only succeed when they are supported and championed by others.
Fundraising
Session (Part 1): Legacy With Care; Putting Stewardship At The Heart Of Your Legacy Program
This 45-minute deep-dive session explores the central role stewardship plays in the Bequests program and strategy at the University of Melbourne. Donor Relations Manager, Georgia Lynas, will share their approaches to engaging supporters who have left, or are considering leaving, a gift in their will. Participants will gain practical and scalable strategies to strengthen relationships with legacy supporters. This session will focus on why a dedicated bequest stewardship program is a must-have, rather than a nice-to-have; and how you already have the tools in place to make a start.
Session (Part 2): Right Person, Right Moment: Building Major Gifts in Schools
As schools increasingly look to major gifts to drive transformational outcomes, many school advancement teams are asking the same question: how do we now move beyond community fundraising into securing larger, more strategic gifts?
In this session, DGB Global will explore a practical approach to managing donor relationships – often referred to as “moves management” – in a way that is simple, actionable, and tailored to schools. We’ll focus not just on what to do, but who should do it. At each stage of the donor journey, we’ll unpack how engaging the right people: Heads, Board members, volunteers, and staff – at the right time can unlock momentum and lead to larger gifts.
We’ll also address the real challenges: involving leadership with confidence, navigating internal dynamics, and building shared ownership of major gifts.
And importantly, we’ll go beyond the ask. You’ll learn how intentional, well-structured stewardship can deepen relationships, build trust, and create a clear pathway to future giving – because when done well, stewardship doesn’t end the journey, it powers what comes next.
Marketing & Communications
Session: Reputation on the Line
Communications advisory firm MGR&CO will lead a high-stakes crisis simulation, putting decision-making and communication skills to the test. Working through a realistic scenario, attendees will learn to respond with clarity, confidence and speed – leaving with practical frameworks and sharper instincts to preserve trust and protect their school’s reputation when it matters most.
People & Culture / Leadership
Session: From Vision to Reality: How Strategic Planning Brings School Values to Life
How do we ensure that a school’s vision, mission, and values are more than just words on a page? How do we embed them into the daily life of our school community, shaping culture, decision-making, and strategic direction?
In this interactive session, we will explore the journey of aligning a school’s values with its long-term strategy. Using our own experience as a case study, we will share how we developed a clear and compelling vision, mission, and values framework that became the foundation for a five-year strategic plan. More importantly, we will discuss the critical next step: embedding these values into every aspect of school life, ensuring they are lived, not just stated. Participants will engage in hands-on activities designed to help them reflect on their own school’s journey, identify gaps between stated values and lived experience, and explore practical ways to bring values to life through leadership, staff engagement, and whole-school initiatives. These activities will provide take-home strategies that can be immediately applied to strengthen school culture and alignment with strategic goals.
