We are also reviewing this area at the moment and I totally agree with you, we are trying to find the balance between protecting our students and maintaining authenticity in our marketing. Our prospective parents expect us to do both at the moment so until this changes we will be continuing to feature real images of our students. This article from earlier this year is informing some of our thinking as we gear up to rewrite all our relevant policies: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/deepfake-panic-proportionate-protection-joanne-villis-bwnyc

Websites & social media: We aren’t removing front-facing photos but we are reviewing how we stage photos to make them harder to alter.

Staff digital presence: We haven’t provided any guidelines to staff yet but they will be considered in our policy review and we are looking at introducing a consent process for them similar to our existing student/parent permissions.

Campus events & media: We still bring in photographers but are much more carefully vetting the final images we use. We do prevent our parents from taking photos at events but manage this on a case-by-case basis with signage and announcements.

Community rollout: We will be changing our parent permissions process following our policy review/update to make it much more detailed (they will need to specify in more detail what they are consenting to) and this will require change comms.

We’re also looking at featuring a smaller group of students in our public-facing channels, and running a more rigorous process around how they are selected and approved, and how we engage with their parents.

I am also really keen to hear how others are working through these issues!
