They use the school equipment – we have iPads and 2 cameras the students can use, the cameras are great for them. They collect the equipment from me or student reception, depending on if I’m working or not (I’m only part time) and then return it afterwards and I take the photos off the device and do what I need to with them.

I try to meet with the group once per fortnight to discuss any thing that’s coming up and I’m also trying to get them to come up with ideas of things to do, if they have any projects they want to do, I’m happy for them to use that time to do it.

My school uses Teams to communicate so I have a Media Committee Teams Channel, I post in there what is coming up and ask who would like to take photos/videos. Sometimes I ask specific students, like I have a group of Year 11 boys who are so good and have been with me since I started the group, if I have something that I need to be really good quality I will go to them first and see if they have capacity because I know I can trust them to just get on with it. Like they’ve been working on a project for a local primary school for their 50th year celebration.

I also put together a guidelines document outlining what I expect of them when they’re using the equipment and the standard of photos/videos I’m looking for.

There are no other staff on it, it’s just me and my group, I have about 10 students who regularly engage and volunteer.
