Hi Annie
I run an annual fundraising golf day at St Augustin’s College – Sydney and they have always been successful raising between $15-25K each event.
Golf days are time consuming to set up however once you have things in place it gets easier.
We play morning golf and finish around 1pm for a lunch with auctions and raffles.
The Golf
We partner with a private golf course which is attractive to keen golfers to play on a first-class course.
We play 18 holes of 4 ball Ambrose (best ball) golf. That is teams of 4. We have incentives on the course to allow golfers to improve their team score ie mulligans, pro driver, a big hole etc. We also have traditional closest to the pin, longest and straightest drive competitions for individuals. I source prizes for teams and individuals and have a prize presentation at the lunch.
Pricing the golf and lunch is important so that you make a little on each ticket sold
The Lunch and fundraising
We encourage Hole sponsorship with signage on each hole/around the course and at the lunch including brochures flyers and promotion of the sponsors. There are 18 holes available for sponsorship and if you can find 1 major sponsor that helps too. I can send you information how our sponsorship works.
At the lunch we have some live auction items – holiday homes and experiences etc and a major raffle. Prizes are all donated from the local community.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of time at the lunch for silent auction etc.
Finally, we promote heavily and usually get between 80-100 golfers. Too many golfers can make the golf part slow. Optimum number is 25 teams of 4 players
We encourage partners to join later for lunch which makes for more people having fun.
It is a tried-and-true model which works and with small tweaks each year to make it fun and interesting.
Hope this helps
