We tried something new last year which was a “Back to Burgmann Day” inviting all alumni but highlighting milestone years, for a single day event. over teh years we had been running a number of alumni events for a handful of people and our resourcing just didn’t allow this to continue.

We started with a returning staff event as we wanted to recognise that part of our community. It was a small lunch provided by our catering team and held in one of our staffrooms. We then walked that group over to the student part of the day which started a couple of hours later. This enabled both students and staff to catch up with each other which created a positive vibe for the day. We included a school tour, had memorabilia and slide show going, providing snacks and non-acoholic drinks and we were done within two hours.

To encourage a “kick on” we had reserved some space at a local venue and ecouraged those who wanted to to attend – which a decent number did.

Overall, it was really successful and the format worked well. This year though, we will try to reach out to some key contacts within milestone cohorts to use their connections to build numbers.
