He spoke compellingly at Senior School assembly, and a launch dinner the evening before became a rousing incentive to donate. The fundraiser was conducted via the Charidy digital platform, and premised on the concept of matched giving. Should the target not be achieved all the donations were to be returned! Somehow, everything coalesced magically on the day: a casual clothes day created a carnival atmosphere; volunteers worked the call centre with finesse; Scotch boys embraced the day with enthusiasm and true heart, with our Indigenous boys providing a special impetus; and the real-time screening in the Quadrangle updating donations as they came through proved especially exhilarating! We were jubilant (and relieved!) to reach our target by 10.30am followed by the $1M mark at 4.21pm but when the final tally emblazoned $1,287,985, it proved, unquestionably, that it pays never to underestimate a community when the cause is a deserving one or when the preparation is sound.
