Telephone fundraising

Has anyone run a telephone fundraising appeal at their school and, if so, how did it go?

I started out as a telephone fundraiser for my university, and spent an Easter (when I should have been revising for my finals!) supervising a phone campaign for a UK school (Shrewsbury). Over the subsequent years I seen them be very successful for a lot of schools in the UK, so have toyed with whether we should try one here. However, I appreciate the Australian context is different, and am keen to learn from the experiences of others being investing too much energy planning anything that might not be a goer.
