Hello all, I am looking to create a social media policy for staff at Glenaeon. Is anyone willing to share their school’s policy so I can adapt? It would be super helpful and such a time saver as I am the sole marketing person here. TIA! Cheers, Kath

      Hi Kath

I am interested in this too. Apart from the obvious that staff can’t be friends with students on social media (which is not entirely black and white in a small community with some staff being friends or relatives of students), we have a blanket rule that staff cannot interact on our social media apart from the standard emoji reactions. This is because one of the school policies is that staff only communicate with parents and students through formal school channels. So, we delete staff comments, even if they’re really nice. The only exception to this rule is the Principal.

Is this the kind of thing you were thinking of?

Hi Cherie, Yes – this is what I need to cover off in the policy. But also cover aspects such as what staff can post on their own channels/websites when its content that might be generated/inspired by school life. What a shame to have to delete lovely comments! If you are happy to share your policy can you please email me k.kissell@glenaeon.nsw.edu.au and I will happily share mine with you when its finalised.

      Hi Kath

Indeed. Our policy is that staff cannot post specifics about the school, but yes, what are the parameters? It is tricky.

Happy to share when we have a grip on it.

Social media is a minefield!! I’m currently developing a school policy for guidelines around what we post and who posts as it’s well overdue for an update. I’ve been looking at information from NSW Office of Children’s Guardian regarding privacy and trying to balance this with parent expectations and the Marketing manager’s expectations etc. Perhaps this would be a good topic for a webinar or SIG? Would love to hear a speaker on privacy and regulations.

Hello! I’m just about to embark on creating a social media policy for our School community, specifically staff and parents. How did you all go with your social media policy?
