Chanel has 17 years of experience in educational advancement, with an equally long track record as a communications professional. As alumni manager for the University of Canterbury (NZ) for 11 years and Swinburne University of Technology (VIC) for five, she has deep strategic and operational knowledge across all areas of stakeholder engagement, including event and data management, communications, merchandising, fundraising and donor stewardship. In her subsequent role as director of individual giving for Rux Burton Associates, Chanel gained expert knowledge in all aspects of running alumni telephone campaigns, working with schools and universities across Australasia.
As a communications professional, Chanel covers all forms of print and electronic media, with specialty skills in feature profiles and donor communications (annual appeals, case statements, etc). She has written on diverse subjects—from jumping spiders and tiny crustaceans living on underwater volcanoes, to astrophysics, geology, wildlife conservation, psychology and the arts—as well as feature profiles on national and international luminaries.
As part-time Training Manager for Educate Plus, Chanel helps facilitate the Certified Advancement Practitioner Training Courses. She has many years of involvement with the organisation, including chairing the Melbourne 2014 International Conference. She currently sits on the Board as Tertiary Advisor, and became a Fellow in 2008.
